Brazilian Gymnast Flavia Saraiva Competes With Black Eye After Fall at Hollywood Life

Flavia Saraiva of Team Brazil received medical treatment during the Artistic Gymnastics Women’s Team Final at the Bercy Arena, Paris, France, on July 30, 2024. She sustained an injury to her eye after slipping off an eight-foot-high bar and subsequently hitting herself with her knee.

Despite the injury, she successfully executed her routine on the uneven bars during the actual event. Once bandaged up, Saraiva performed her routine on the uneven bars, scoring a strong 13.666 and proceeded to perform a floor routine to a French cabaret classic.

Many fans took to social media to praise her ability to shake off the mishap. Saraiva had faced several ankle surgeries prior to the 2024 Paris Olympics, leading to concerns about her participation.

Despite her doubts, she was able to compete and helped Brazil secure a team bronze medal, marking the first team medal for Brazil in gymnastics. Saraiva reflected on her struggles with injuries, stating, “Every time I returned, I felt something different, another foot injury.

I wondered ‘what’s my year gonna be like?’ Many people know, but I wanted to stop training.” Despite her reservations, she was able to contribute to Brazil’s success against tough competition, finishing less than one point behind Italy.
