Tua Tagovailoa’s future with the team, his history of concussions, and the response to his latest injury, including comments from Hamlin, are the focus of attention. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has not provided any immediate updates on whether Tagovailoa might return for the rest of the 2024-2025 NFL season, according to the Associated Press.
Tagovailoa is currently in the NFL’s concussion protocol, which requires him to successfully complete a series of tests and assessments before he can consider returning to the field. The NFL emphasizes that each player’s concussion is unique, and there is no set timeframe for return or progressing through the stages of the program.
In 2022, Tagovailoa was diagnosed with two concussions and missed five games due to them. In the first instance, he left the field on a stretcher after a hit during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Another concussion was diagnosed following a game against the Bills. Despite not initially being diagnosed with a concussion after the latter hit, it later became a focal point in the debate over NFL concussion protocols.
During his time at Alabama, Tagovailoa experienced a high ankle sprain and a dislocated right hip, both of which led to missed game time. Heading into the 2023 season, he began training with a jiu-jitsu coach to better protect his head when falling and managed to play in every Dolphins game that year.
The outpouring of support for Tagovailoa from former colleagues like Manti Te’o and fellow players like Josh Allen is evident. Their concerns and well-wishes reflect the wider sentiment within the football community for Tagovailoa’s recovery.
