Jonathan Owens Commemorates Simone Biles Following Olympic Trials Qualification

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens attended a game between the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers at Toyota Center on January 29, 2024 in Houston, Texas. The Biles family showed support, particularly for Simone Biles’ uneven bars performance. Owens expressed his pride, stating, “We going to Paris.” However, he might not be able to attend the entire duration of the Olympic Games due to training camp commitments.

Biles confirmed that Owens would be in Paris to support her for a “short time” before returning to training camp. She expressed excitement about being able to support each other’s dreams and goals. At 27, Biles is the oldest American gymnast to compete at the Olympics in 72 years, and the fourth American woman to compete in a third Olympics, joining Muriel Grossfeld (1956-1964), Linda Metheny (1964-1972), and Dominique Dawes (1992-2000). On June 30, 2024, Suni Lee, Simone Biles, Hezly Rivera, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey were selected for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team.

Biles had withdrawn from several events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health troubles and experiencing the ‘twisties’. However, for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Biles is determined and clear-headed about her goals and what she wants to accomplish. She emphasized the importance of doing their best for themselves and the love of the sport and representing the U.S. “I know we’re stronger than what we showed in Tokyo,” she stated.
