MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN – JULY 15: Trump’s pick for Vice President, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) arrives on the first day of the Republican National Convention at the Fiserv Forum on July 15, 2024 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Delegates, politicians, and the Republican faithful are in Milwaukee for the annual convention, concluding with former President Donald Trump accepting his party’s presidential nomination.
The RNC takes place from July 15-18. The 39-year-old joined the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after graduating high school and took on the role of a combat correspondent. Vance, in 2016, remarked on the economic challenges in Kentucky, stating, “The economy in this area has been really hard hit, you know, these are areas that depended on coal mines, on steel mills, on other manufacturing industries that just don’t exist anymore or at least don’t exist in quite the volume needed to support a local economy.
So what’s happened is that as people have lost jobs, people have lost hope. It’s that they’re really trying to find something to do, something to dull that pain that comes from living in areas that are really struggling.” In his memoir, Vance reflected on his upbringing, “I was like a lot of kids who grew up in this environment.
We didn’t live a peaceful life in a small nuclear family.”
