On July 21, Kamala Harris tweeted her gratitude to Joe Biden for his exceptional leadership as President of the United States and for his many years of service to the country. She expressed her honor at receiving the President’s endorsement and her determination to earn the nomination. Additionally, Harris indicated her commitment to uniting the Democratic Party and the nation to defeat Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda.
Earlier on the same day, Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, citing that serving the American people had been the greatest honor of his life. Despite his initial intention to seek reelection, he believed it was best for the party and the country for him to step down and focus on his duties as President. Biden affirmed his steadfast belief in the potential of the United States to overcome any challenge when united.
Biden’s decision to step down followed calls from numerous Democrats and Americans for him to do so. This followed a televised debate in June where Biden appeared to stumble on his words. Speculation regarding Harris’s potential to replace Biden as the 2024 Democratic nominee had circulated in the media.
