The US Olympic and Paralympic Committee is facing a lawsuit over copyright violation claims. The lawsuit alleges that the committee has trademarked phrases such as “Olympic,” “Olympian,” “Team USA,” and “Going for Gold,” which were used by Prime Hydration, a drink company co-founded by Logan Paul and KSI.
The lawsuit specifically pointed to a Prime Hydration drink featuring basketball star Kevin Durant, who is aiming to win his fourth gold medal as a member of the U.S. Olympic basketball team. The lawsuit stated that an Olympic Committee lawyer had contacted Prime on July 10, requesting the company to cease using the trademarks.
However, Prime allegedly continued to distribute the drink to stores and showcase it on its LinkedIn account. The lawsuit accused Prime of willful and deliberate conduct with malicious intent to trade on the goodwill of the USOPC and the IOC.
It claimed that Prime’s actions have caused “damage and irreparable injury” to the USOPC, which relies heavily on licensing its trademarks to fund the U.S. Olympic Team as it does not receive financial assistance from the federal government. Notably, in a TikTok video in April, Logan Paul had stated, “First off, anyone can sue anyone at any time; that does not make the lawsuit true.
And in this case, it is not… one person conducted a random study and has provided zero evidence to substantiate any of their claims.”
