The Formula One Alpine team is set to debut a special livery on its F1 cars at the Belgian Grand Prix to celebrate the release of the Deadpool & Wolverine film. The decision to feature a one-off color scheme is part of the team’s tie-up with Marvel Studios. Ryan Reynolds, who portrays Deadpool, has taken a significant interest in the team, becoming involved in June 2023 when Renault offloaded 24% of its shares to the US-based investment group Otro Capital. This group includes RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments, led by Reynolds and fellow Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney.
Esteban Ocon will be seen driving in a Deadpool-themed helmet in Las Vegas as part of this collaboration. Reynolds and a group of investors contributed a €200m cash injection in Alpine last year, with the aim of advancing the team’s aspirations in Formula 1. Reynolds, aged 47, has entered the world of Formula 1, and has been joined at Alpine by prominent athletes such as Michael B. Jordan, boxer Anthony Joshua, footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold, golfer Rory McIlroy, NFL star Travis Kelce, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes has been frequently spotted in the F1 paddock as a guest of Alpine.
The CEO of RedBird Capital, Peter Bayer, highlighted the team’s appeal by stating, “We are the team with the youngest and the most balanced fan base between male and female, and it’s the perfect target audience for the movie as well. Daniel and Yuki are popular drivers. With this deal, everything had to happen very quickly, and it’s a great fit for both the movie and the team.”
