According to multiple reports, both the talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and the comedian John Mulaney declined the opportunity to host the 2025 Academy Awards, set for March 2. Kimmel, 56, has previously hosted the Oscars four times and the Primetime Emmy Awards three times.
Meanwhile, Mulaney, 41, hosted the 2024 Governors Awards in January and has presented at the Academy Awards before. It was reported that John waited for Jimmy to turn down the hosting opportunity before declining himself.
CEO Bill Kramer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had expressed his enthusiasm for both Kimmel and Mulaney in an interview with *Variety*, saying, “John Mulaney, you were put on this earth to host the Oscars.” The ratings for the previous awards ceremony reached a new high, and a performance by Ryan became a viral hit on social media.
The Academy Awards and the Emmys are both broadcast on ABC annually. The Emmys, scheduled for September 15, have yet to announce their host for the ceremony celebrating the best in television.
