Carrie Underwood to take over as judge on ‘American Idol’ following departure of Katy Perry

The 41-year-old country music singer has replaced now-former judge Katy Perry on the reality TV series American Idol. After competing in season 4, Carrie Underwood skyrocketed to fame and went on to sell 85 million records worldwide. She has received eight Grammy Awards, 17 American Music Awards, 10 People’s Choice Awards, and seven CMA awards throughout her career so far. Many future contestants even auditioned using her songs.

Other major music artists were considered before ABC decided on Carrie. Earlier this year, Katy Perry announced her departure from the reality TV series. While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in February, Katy explained that she adores the show but wanted to explore other ventures as an artist.

She expressed that this will probably be her last season for Idol, as she feels the need to go out and feel the pulse to her own beat. American Idol host Ryan Seacrest welcomed Carrie Underwood to the show, stating, “I went from nobody knowing my name to tens of millions of people watching the show.” Carrie’s entry into the show has been a significant moment for the series. The announcement of Carrie Underwood replacing Katy Perry as a judge on American Idol was made with excitement and anticipation for the new season.
