On the day before, Simone apparently made a cryptic comment about MyKayla in an Instagram post celebrating their team’s win. Shortly after, Simone tweeted, “Oop I’ve been blocked” along with some emojis. In the Instagram post, Simone wrote, “Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions.” Even though she didn’t mention MyKayla by name, fans speculated that Simone was subtly addressing MyKayla based on her past remarks about current gymnasts.
MyKayla had previously made comments about the work ethic of contemporary gymnasts and later issued an apology for any hurtful remarks, attributing them to the emotional and verbal abuse she had experienced under her former coach Marta. Additionally, MyKayla expressed her desire for a positive environment in the sport and apologized for her comments. She also extended her well wishes to her former teammates for the upcoming Paris games. MyKayla had participated as an individual in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was an alternate in the 2016 Rio Olympics, while Simone had competed in both games.
