Leon Marchand, a swimmer from France, clinched the gold medal in the men’s 200m individual medley swimming event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Following his triumph, he posed with his medal on the podium at the Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre.
This victory added to his outstanding performance in multiple events over the past week, where he broke several records. Notably, he became the first French swimming champion to win multiple gold medals in the same Olympics.
Social media and Olympics viewers worldwide have hailed him as the new king of swimming. Upon his return to France, Leon Marchand acknowledged feeling some stress with the Olympics approaching.
However, he mentioned that his time at the training camp helped him remain calm and serene. He expressed that making history has helped him learn about himself and be more open to others.
Reflecting on his influence on fellow athletes, he cited the inspiration he draws from Florent Manaudou and emphasized that while it’s not his primary goal, it comes with the dedication and effort he puts into his performances. His coach, Bob, highlighted Leon’s self-reliance and the importance of not making high-level swimmers dependent on their coach.
He mentioned that Leon is adept at understanding and executing his requirements, with routines and preparations becoming instinctive. This disciplined approach has become an integral part of his preparation for major events.
