Julianne Hough opens up about being sexually abused at age 4

On June 16, 2024, Julianne Hough attended the 77th Annual Tony Awards at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City. During an interview, she revealed that her parents, Marriann and Bruce, felt guilty and helpless when she disclosed the abuse she had experienced as a child. Julianne explained that she did not disclose the abuse until she was 15 and that it was the first time she had publicly addressed it.

Julianne expressed how her traumatic experiences in childhood had a lasting impact on her, emphasizing that the abuses of power during her young age set a precedent that others have control. She attributed her upbringing in a Mormon background to the pressure of appearing perfect, despite the far-from-perfect reality she faced. These struggles led her to block out memories from birth to age 10.

As an adult, Julianne has been able to discuss these issues with her parents, acknowledging that doing so has contributed to her healing process. She revealed that she now wants to talk about her experiences more openly, noting that having these conversations repeatedly is important for reassurance and safety. She admitted that while it is uncomfortable to have these conversations, it is necessary for healing and understanding.
