The significance of homeownership extends beyond mere financial transactions, according to Harris, who emphasized its role as a symbol of hard work and pride, as well as a source of financial security and the potential to provide for future generations. She stated her intention, as president, to collaborate with the housing industry to address the issue of unattainable homeownership for many American families, advocating for the construction of both rental and purchasing housing options.
Harris shared her personal experience of growing up in a middle-class family and being renters for most of her childhood. She expressed her commitment to prioritizing lowering costs and enhancing economic security for all Americans if elected as President.
Highlighting her own background, she acknowledged the challenges faced by families, including the struggle of her former coworkers at McDonald’s who held multiple jobs to cover expenses. She underscored the difficulties that arise with rising living expenses, stating that after accounting for essential needs such as food, rent, and medication, many families have little left at the end of the month.
Harris also outlined her plan aimed at decreasing costs and expanding opportunities for working and middle-class Americans. Notably, she recalled the urging of Democrats and celebrities for an 81-year-old to withdraw from the presidential race, with concerns often centered around age.
