Katy Perry Responds to Criticism About Music Video Filmed on Protected Dunes

Katy Perry arrived in London, England on July 25, 2024 for a Capital Breakfast Radio interview at Global Radio. A spokesperson for the 39-year-old singer confirmed that proper authorization was given for the video shoot at a specific location.

They were led to believe that all necessary permits had been secured, and though one permit was still in process, verbal authority was granted to proceed. However, it was later revealed that the local crew had applied for a permit with the Directorate-General for Coasts and Coastline on July 22.

In response, preliminary investigation actions have been initiated. The department clarified that Perry’s actions are not considered a “crime against the environment,” but an infringement, as general photography and filming “can be authorized” in the area.

The incident occurred during the shoot for “Lifetimes,” the second single from Perry’s upcoming seventh album, *143*, scheduled for release on September 20. The track is intended as a women’s empowerment anthem, featuring visuals paying homage to Rosie the Riveter and lyrics promoting female empowerment.
