The trailer for the upcoming movie “Wicked” was released on Thursday, September 5, and it invites viewers to “discover everything that happened before Dorothy.” The teaser begins with Ariana’s character, Glinda, addressing the people of Oz and announcing the death of the Wicked Witch of the West. As the trailer unfolds, Ariana’s character narrates the story, revealing the backstory of how her path crossed with the Wicked Witch of the West’s at school and hinting at the character’s secrets.
The trailer also features Cynthia’s character, Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, singing “Defying Gravity” while various scenes of her character are shown. Ariana and Cynthia’s characters share an emotional moment when Glinda places the black witch hat on top of Elphaba’s head. The clip also unveils Ethan’s character, who is The Wizard, and includes a line where The Wizard talks about bringing people together by giving them a common enemy, referring to Elphaba.
It is mentioned that Part 1 of “Wicked” will premiere in theaters on November 22, and Part 2 will be released on November 26, 2025.
