The members of the band were quickly rushed off stage during Green Day’s September 4 concert. The crowd was only given one reason for this abrupt exit. The band later apologized for the delay through a tweet, mentioning that stadium security had forced them off stage to deal with a potential safety issue. According to Detroit police, a man had flown a drone over the concert at Comerica Park, leading to the band’s removal from the stage.
The Detroit Police Department confirmed that they had located the individual responsible for flying the drone and stated that the FAA would investigate the incident. The FAA indicated that drone operators who endanger others can face fines exceeding $30,000, although the agency does not have criminal prosecution authority. Despite the interruption, Green Day did not halt their concert. They returned to the stage and continued with the show, playing some of their biggest hits, including “American Idiot.”
