Former film producer Harvey Weinstein is set to face a retrial in New York City after the reversal of his 2020 rape conviction. The court cited “egregious errors” in allowing testimony about separate allegations, and he has since been transferred to Rikers Island to await the new trial in November.
Weinstein, who has denied all allegations, has been indicted on additional sex crime charges ahead of the retrial, as some women are now ready to proceed with the legal process. Weinstein was not present at a recent hearing due to an emergency heart and lung procedure, and is currently in critical condition following surgery to alleviate fluid on his lungs and heart.
After previously being hospitalized for COVID-19 and pneumonia in both lungs, his current health situation is being closely monitored.
