The person with the gun dropped their weapon and attempted to flee in an SUV, but was taken into custody in a nearby county. The shooter, identified as Crooks, fired at Trump with an AR-15-style rifle from a nearby rooftop during a rally. Crooks was shot and killed by the Secret Service sniper team.
The motive behind the shooting is still unknown. Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the violence, emphasizing that it has no place in America. Democratic candidate and Vice President also expressed relief that Trump was safe and assured that they would be kept updated regularly.
The attempted assassination has brought attention to the need for unity and peace, and Trump has vowed to remain undeterred by the incident.
