NHL Star Johnny Gaudreau’s Brother and Him Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver

State Police Sgt. Higgins, who was charged with two counts of death by auto, was being held without bond at the Salem County Correctional Facility on Friday morning, jail records show. Through further investigation, Higgins was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

Columbus Blue Jackets released a statement on the passing of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, referring to the deaths as an “unimaginable tragedy.” Gaudreau, who played for the Columbus Blue Jackets, was remembered for bringing great joy to the game and for his love for hockey, which was felt by everyone who saw him on the ice. The statement emphasized the profound impact Gaudreau had on both the organization and the sport, highlighting the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him.

The team expressed their grief at the loss of Johnny “Hockey,” and paid tribute to his career from Boston College to the Calgary Flames, and to Team USA.
