‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Achieves Highest Box Office Revenue for an R-Rated Film

On July 22, 2024, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds attended the world premiere of “Deadpool & Wolverine” at Lincoln Center in New York City. The film’s global box office earnings reached $1.086 billion within 23 days, with $516.8 million from domestic markets and $568.8 million from international ones.

This success marked Disney’s second consecutive $1 billion hit after *Inside Out 2* from Pixar Animation Studios, which grossed $1.46 billion worldwide. Disney became the only studio to achieve this feat in a single year.

Since its debut over the July 26-28 weekend, *Deadpool & Wolverine* has broken numerous records, earning accolades for everyone involved. Its theatrical release garnered a global opening of $444 million, setting a new record for the highest-grossing global opening for an R-rated film, surpassing the original *Deadpool* released in 2016.

The film quickly outpaced *Logan* and its two predecessors, becoming the biggest opening in the careers of Jackman, Reynolds, and Levy. Additionally, a memo from Feige to Reynolds and Levy outlined drug terms that would not be allowed in the film, an aspect humorously referred to by Deadpool himself in the movie.

The memo singled out cocaine as off-limits, with Deadpool quipping to his roommate Blind Al about Feige’s awareness of slang terms and the existence of a list of prohibited terms.
