Despite this, Curry, 36, delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 24 points, including four crucial 3-pointers late in the game. His exceptional playing contributed to Team USA’s 98-87 victory over France.
Curry expressed understanding of the high-stakes nature of the game and the pressure of making a comeback in a limited time. This marked the star point guard’s first Olympic gold in Paris, adding to his impressive basketball career.
Durant and Edwards also made substantial contributions to the game, with Durant scoring 15 points and grabbing four rebounds, and Edwards adding eight points and one rebound. Curry’s exceptional performances in the Olympics, including a 36-point game against Serbia, apparently prompted the subsequent drug testing.
Edwards jokingly mentioned that Durant was supposed to be tested after the first Serbia game but avoided it. Random drug testing is a common practice in major professional sports leagues such as the NBA, NFL, and MLB, especially after standout performances.
Team USA’s victory in the gold medal game marked their fifth consecutive gold in men’s basketball and their eighth in the last nine Olympics. Additionally, the USA women’s basketball team clinched their eighth consecutive gold medal by defeating France in the final event of the Paris Games.
