The fire service dive team leaves port, headed for the dive site of the luxury yacht Bayesian, which sank in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily. This incident occurred on the third day of the search for six missing tourists. The Italian Coastguard is considering the possibility that the missing individuals may still be alive, speculating that air pockets could have formed as the yacht sank.
The picture date for this incident is Wednesday, August 21, 2024. Giovanni Costantino, leader of The Italian Sea Group, expressed concerns about the situation. He stated that the passengers should not have been in the cabins, and the boat should not have been at anchor.
According to him, the storm was not unexpected as the weather charts indicated that it was predictable. Pietro Asciutto, a fisherman who witnessed the sinking, shared his perspective on the tragedy. He mentioned closing his windows when a tornado hit and then witnessed the large yacht sink suddenly.
The tragedy also brought attention to the late owner, Mike Lynch, who had listed the yacht for sale in March for £30 million. He later reconsidered and removed it from the market to set sail in the summer, with plans to relist it in the fall.
