Olympic Runner Lamecha Girma Leaves Race on Stretcher After Fall

In the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase final during the Athletics Competition at the Stade de France at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games on August 7th, 2024, Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia fell after his right leg got caught in his last lap jumping over a barrier. The fall rendered him motionless and unconscious for a few minutes. Following his fall, Lamecha Girma received immediate care from the on-site medical teams. The International Olympic Committee expressed their thoughts and well-wishes for his swift recovery, mentioning that Paris 2024 is in close contact with the Ethiopian National Olympic Committee to stay updated on his condition.

He is set to undergo further scans to check his leg before being discharged from the hospital. Despite this unfortunate incident, Lamecha Girma holds a silver medal from the 2021 Tokyo Games and the world record in the sport.
